bio_gregoryGreg Murphy is a highly qualified patent attorney with experience in all areas of intellectual property law.  Greg's practice particularly focuses on patent prosecution and litigation, strategic counseling and opinion work, portfolio management, and related licensing and transactional matters.  With his business-minded perspective and broad experience in developing, protecting and defending strong intellectual property programs, Greg is uniquely qualified to assist companies and in-house counsel with their intellectual property needs.

Greg’s experience and expertise includes:
  • Handling the preparation and prosecution of U.S. and foreign patents in diverse technologies, including communication systems and methods, electronic commerce and financial business methods, fiber technologies and automotive systems
  • Managing multiple patent portfolios, some of which exceed 250 domestic and foreign patent applications
  • Counseling clients on the development, valuation and protection of intellectual property assents
  • Drafting clearance, validity and non-infringement opinions of counsel
  • Crafting and negotiating various IP-centric agreements for the transfer of patent and technology rights, including license, joint development, joint venture, distribution, service and promotional agreements
  • Providing pre-trial and litigation assistance in multi-million dollar patent infringement litigations and arbitrations by preparing motions, briefs, and legal memoranda; taking and defending depositions and preparing witnesses for trial; managing discovery requests, responses and disputes, as well as translating between the legal and technical teams
  • Conducting due diligence and IP review prior to acquisition, sale or merger and offering advice to clients regarding  the impact of patents, trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets on overall business plans.

Prior to establishing Landmark Intellectual Property Law, PC, Greg practiced as a patent attorney with Hunton & Williams, LLP and Collier Shannon Scott, PLLC (now Kelley Drye and Warren LLP).  Greg earned his undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and he obtained his law degree from The Catholic University of America, Columbus School of Law, graduating cum laude.  During law school, Greg was a member of Law Review and worked as a patent agent and searcher.  For the past several years, Greg has served as a board member and Secretary for the Greater Richmond Intellectual Property Law Association and is also a member of the American Intellectual Property Law Association.  Greg is admitted to practice in California, Virginia, Maryland, Washington, DC and before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
